Student Shop Managers Consortium (SSMC) is a community of practice for personnel in academic making environments and affiliates.

Message from the president

Welcome to the 2021 Student Shop Managers Conference!
This is the 7th Student Shop Managers Conference, and it is the third conference organized by our new non-profit organization, Student Shop Managers Consortium (myssmc.org). It’s great to see our community of shop leaders come together to advance the safe operation of and development of academic shops. I always leave the conference re-energized and motivated to make positive change back at my home institution.

The Board of Directors has been organizing this conference and developing a business plan for the organization to make sure you find it equally valuable for years to come. Please help me acknowledge the outstanding service of the volunteers serving on the Board:

Amy Kavalewitz, Rice University

I want to express my gratitude to you all for participating in SSMC throughout the COVID Pandemic.  We did our best to stay engaged with the community through the Lunch and Learns and hope to continue those moving forward.

We are looking forward to the 2022 conference where we will be IN PERSON in St. Louis (if the state of things permits)!

Make your voice heard and consider a leadership position in SSMC. Membership is included in conference registration, so become an active member by attending the SSMC business meeting to learn about our governance, consider volunteering for a leadership position, and vote in the elections. You could help guide the planning of the next conference or enhance the service mission of the SSMC.

I hope you are inspired and empowered by this conference to make a difference in your space. I look forward to seeing you at the conference!
